This study adopts deep mediatization as its theoretical perspective to examine how museums reuse digital surrogates derived from digitized collections under conditions of digitization, platformization, and datafication, and how institutional vocabularies such as publicness and sustainability articulate and legitimize these practices. It focuses on how digital surrogates shift from objects of preservation and representation into resources that can be repeatedly mobilized, translated, and recombined, and how this transformation reshapes museum practices and institutional roles.
The study uses policy objectives, annual reports, and related institutional documents published by the National Museum of Taiwan History and the National Palace Museum between 2015 and 2024 as diachronic indexes. The Museum Discourse Analyzer combines TF-IDF, co-occurrence analysis, KWIC, and contextual rereading to identify relevant vocabularies and textual locations, which are then examined through discourse analysis.
The findings show that digital surrogates acquire new uses and values through repeated recombination, translation, and institutional articulation. This study defines this process as re-assetization: digital surrogates become institutional resources that museums can continually mobilize and reconfigure. These new uses also contribute to institutional reconfiguration by reshaping actor relations, media configurations, working arrangements, and institutional roles. GenAI had not formed a stable institutional vocabulary by 2024, although later materials indicate that its practical use may precede formal institutional articulation. Overall, museum digital transformation emerges as a non-linear process of mutual constitution among digital surrogates, institutional vocabularies, and media relations.
