This case study investigates the market potential for an app that integrates wearable technology with sports nutrition to provide personalized supplement guidance, using long-distance running as an example. As long-distance running continues to grow in popularity, wearable devices have become essential tools for tracking physiological data. However, despite these technological advancements, there is currently no app capable of transforming performance data into intuitive sports nutrition suggestions and enabling runners to know what supplements should be taken at specific times. This study aims to explore whether an app that could fulfill the current gap for offering personalized sports nutrition guidance by collecting wearable data is attractive to long-distance runners, as well as investigate the market potential behind.

The research employs qualitative interviews with experienced male and female long-distance runners to examine their running experiences, use of wearable devices, supplement consumption habits, and attitudes toward this data-driven sports nutrition app’s concept. It further explores their willingness to share health data and pay for subscription-based digital services.

The findings are expected to reveal meaningful insights and highlight the market potential for future app development. In the long term, this concept could extend beyond running and contribute to a broader digital health ecosystem that supports athletes across various sports with personalized, evidence-based guidance.
