This study investigates how to mitigate negative emotions arising from "privacy boundary turbulence"—a common side effect of platform transparency disclosures. Drawing on cognitive appraisal theory (CAT), we examine how "framing" strategies can regulate user anxiety and anger by targeting two key pathways: perceived control and perceived fairness. Using a mixed-methods design with two experiments and interviews, we tested control- and fairness-enhancing frames. Findings show these frames successfully influence their corresponding appraisals, which in turn mediate emotional outcomes: perceived control predicts anxiety and fear, while perceived fairness predicts anger. This research extends CAT into the privacy domain and offers practical guidance for designing emotionally-attuned disclosures that balance transparency with user trust.
