本研究為一探索性研究，希望建立對未成年遊民一些初步的認識，做為後續研究、制定相關政策和處遇時參考資料。研究採質化方法，以開放性訪談搜集研究資料，並配合研究者的參與觀察進行分析。

首先在未成年遊民的產生因素上，研究者歸納出推力、拉力和支持特性因素三方面。推力和拉力來自於家庭、學校、同儕團體和社會，是使未成年人離家庭的動力；支持性因素，意指使未成年人無家狀況持續的因素，包括身處遊民家庭與無教養家庭、在外夥伴的相互支援、教養者的認可、住所問題解決和經濟充裕五項，未成年遊民皆具有一項或一項以上的支持性因素。

研究者依未成年遊民的居住狀況，區分為非住宿設計場所、旅社、朋友家和宿舍四種居住類型，再以這四個類型分別描述他們的經濟來源、消費方式、生活狀況（衣著、日常活動）、人際關係，並分析遊民生活對未成年人身體健康、社會化和性行為發展的影響。

在結論時，研究者將研究發現結合現有文獻進行討論，大多都獲得支持，至於本研究的新發現，則可為後續研究參考。最後，研究者提出一些未成年遊民的處遇建議。
