This study explores how social media and public discourse shape the development of figure skating in Taiwan, drawing on the Circuit of Culture framework to examine the interplay
between representation, identity, production, consumption, and regulation. Through twentyfour semi-structured interviews with Taiwanese fans active on platforms such as Facebook, PTT, and YouTube, the research investigates how fans engage with social media, what motivates their participation, and how these practices influence perceptions of the sport’s growth. Findings show that social media serves as both an information hub and a space for identity construction and community-building within a niche sporting culture. Participants emphasized convenience, emotional expression, and connection as key motivations, while also
recognizing persistent challenges such as limited infrastructure, funding, and visibility. By highlighting how online engagement compensates for institutional constraints, this study contributes to understanding how digital media sustain interest and cultural meaning in underrepresented sports like figure skating in Taiwan.
