This study investigates how interaction mechanisms in audio live streaming shape users' identity and loyalty behaviors, using the Taiwanese platform Wave as the research context. As audio live streaming de-emphasizes visual elements, it provides a unique context for examining how interaction relationships, companionship, and emotional bonds are developed. Interaction in this setting extends beyond streamer–listener relationships to encompass the broader live-streaming community.

Drawing on Interaction Ritual Chains Theory, Trans-Parasocial relationships, and a situational identity perspective, this study employs netnography through online participant observation and in-depth interviews. The findings reveal that the low visual demands, multitasking affordances, and long-duration companionship characteristic of audio live streaming enable it to become embedded in users' everyday lives and foster emotional bonds through repeated interactions. Wave's small-scale environment further transforms collective reciprocity into personal reciprocity, making listeners feel remembered and valued. Through shared attention, emotional synchrony, and prolonged co-presence, listeners gradually develop stable interaction ritual chains, accumulating emotional energy, moral standards, and a sense of community belonging.

The study further identifies a dynamic power tier structure within audio live-streaming communities, where listeners accumulate emotional, economic, governance, and cultural capital to occupy differentiated positions in a streamer-centered interactional field. However, higher power positions do not necessarily lead to loyalty behaviors. Only when listeners internalize their role as a situational identity do they engage in loyalty behaviors such as continued listening, gifting, and recommendation.

Overall, interaction, emotional energy, identity, and loyalty form a mutually reinforcing cycle. This study contributes an integrated interaction model for audio live streaming, offering insights for community management and platform development.
