本文的目的是在分析究竟是什麼原因影響台灣民眾的政治疏離感，並且，也將以民眾的人口學和相關政治態度等因素去分析，究竟是哪些民眾擁有較高的政治疏離感。此外，本文也將進一步的分析，民眾的政治疏離感對其政治參與有何影響。
研究結果顯示，政治世代為第一代、外省籍、教育程度較低者、居住在北部的民眾、政治興趣（除了注意報紙新聞和關心選舉，此處的政治興趣包括注意電視新聞和討論選舉議題）和施政評價較低者（包括施政者評價、整體經濟和個人經濟評價）、偏泛藍和無政黨認同者、以及對兩岸問題為偏向統一的民眾，其政治疏離感顯著偏高。
之後，在民眾政治疏離感對其政治參與的影響方面，疏離型民眾參與慣常性政治參與的比例顯著偏低。至於在非慣常性政治參與方面，卡方獨立性檢定上並未達到統計上的顯著水準，因此，無法說明疏離型民眾在非慣常性政治參與的比例是偏低。
