The aim of this research is to develop a “Metaverse Digital Curation Platform” that utilizes blockchain intermediation mechanisms to provide digital asset protection, smart contract applications, and digital economy operations. This platform leverages blockchain intermediation mechanisms to safeguard the digital assets uploaded by asset owners, while enabling digital curation activities through authorized digital asset leasing via smart contracts. Additionally, the platform offers curators the functionality to arrange exhibition spaces and sell exhibition tickets through a 3D curation platform. The goal is to create a metaverse digital curation ecosystem that fosters a positive creative cycle of digital curation.
Using a single-group pre-experimental design, this research explores the adoption of the “Metaverse Digital Curation Platform” with blockchain intermediation mechanisms for exhibition creation, digital asset protection, smart contract utilization, and visitor consumption activities. The study examines the effectiveness of curation, technological acceptance, and whether there are significant differences in the frequency of system function usage among participants with different curation performance levels. Additionally, semi-structured interviews were conducted to understand the experiences, opinions, and future intentions of participants using the “Metaverse Digital Curation Platform” with blockchain intermediation mechanisms for digital curation.
Based on the experimental results, the “Metaverse Digital Curation Platform” with blockchain intermediation mechanisms developed in this study received generally high ratings in terms of technology acceptance from asset owners, curators, and visitors. Particularly, visitors showed higher technology acceptance than asset owners and curators, indicating the effectiveness of the immersive experience and exhibition visit. However, there were no statistically significant differences in curation effectiveness or technology acceptance among asset owners, curators, and visitors. Nevertheless, significant differences were observed in the frequency of setting exhibition ticket prices and using exhibition videos between participants with different curation performance levels. Finally, through the comprehensive analysis of interview results, most participants held a positive attitude towards the application of blockchain intermediation mechanisms in asset protection and authorization, and emphasized the importance of satisfying the supply and demand conditions among asset owners, curators, and visitors to promote curation effectiveness. Furthermore, for the future development of the platform, it is recommended to prioritize assigning actual economic value to platform tokens in order to effectively develop a metaverse digital curation ecosystem with a positive creative cycle.
