本文的目的在於分析民國42-64年間，台灣之工業化與貿易發展之關係，以及工業製品的出口市場等問題。
全文共分六章。除第一章導論與第六章結論外，第二章首先說明工業化之意義及重要性與工業發展策略之演變，其次介紹台灣工業發展之概況並以H.B.Chenery的工業成長模型與邢慕寰先生的實證方法分析進口替代與出口擴張效果對台灣工業成長的貢獻。
第三章就台灣對外貿易依存度、各項貨品進出口對進出口總值的貢獻率及固定資本形成毛額之資本進口係數，說明台灣工業發展與貿易的關係。
第四章就貿易商品結構、商品集中係數、相異指數及不穩定指數之變化，說明台灣工業化期間，貿易型態的變化如何。
第五章先說明工業製品的出口市場與要素密集度的關係，在以台灣的商品出口資料分析工業製品的雙元性出口市場之分布。
