本文的目的在以計量方法，將台灣對外交易部門作一細分化之分析，一方面探討各項商品勞務到底分別受那些因素之影響，另一方面亦可求得各種商品需求的彈性及勞務需求的邊際傾向。此外也可明瞭當影響因素發生變動時被決定因素變動之反應速度及反應遞延期間有多久。
本文共計六萬三千餘字，分五章十九節，第一章敘述本文之研究目的與研究方法，及本文所使用各解釋性變數與使用上之限制。此外並說明本文採取落後變數(lagged variables)之涵意，以及平均時間落後(mean time lags)與分配落後的變異(variance of distributed lags)兩種工具之意義及用途。第二章討論模型之建立，根據部分調整機能(partial adjustment mechanism)之概念並假定Koyck幾何落後分配(Geometric lag distribution)下，建立各項商品，勞務之進出口需求方程式。並提出利用所建立之模型進行估計時所應加諸之假設，以求得較佳之估計值，以及模型中使用符號之意義及其資料來源一併予以說明。第三章則提出各項方程式之估計結果並加以討論。第四章則將本文的估計結果與國內外論者之估計結果作一比較。最後則提出本文之結論與檢討。
