The Idea of NeBi Phone is a new business model to make smartphones affordable and accessible in developing countries. More than half of the global population does not have access to a smartphone and to internet. These people are not connected to the world’s greatest source of knowledge, education, job search and socializing. To create a quality phone for a sales price as low as 30$, NeBi will sell the control of the home screen of each phone in exchange for advertisement. This will create a continuous income for each phone in the market for the lifetime of the phone. The advertisement has to be targeted at everyday consumer products, such as food, drinks, toothpaste or ice cream. The start of the project will be in Philippines, but the business model is designed to work globally in any developing country. The phones will be sourced from a manufacturer in Shenzhen, which also has hardware R&D capability. Rapid technical development in the last years allows manufacturers to minimize their cost through using phone parts which were developed a few years ago. The Software R&D will be outsourced to a tech startup in the Philippines. Distribution will consist of NeBi owned warehouses in the Philippines combined with local phone distributor companies and sales points in local markets. Another key partner will be a phone service provider to distribute sim cards and get data for the advertisement transmission. The NeBi mission statement is “We focus on accessibility and affordability of NeBi phones to enrich the lives of the rural people of the world through connecting them to the world.”
