  • Higher education is important to the today’s economy. Hong Kong Government works hard to provide multiple pathways to secondary school graduates to pursue higher education. Since 2000, the non-local higher education sector has rapidly developed, and intense competition raises within the sector. This sector is facing a high-flowing employee turnover rate.
This thesis studies one of the non-local higher education institutions in Hong Kong to understand the relationship among employee turnover, job satisfaction, and work-life balance. This paper is also aimed at providing feasible recommendations for employee retention.
The research results show that the causes of high employee turnover rate in the non-local higher education sector are due to poor selection and work overload. Secondly, there are four factors influence job satisfaction include relationship, compensation and benefits, recognition, and achievement. Thirdly, work-life balance plays a major role to female employees.
In short, this study has the potential to offer a reference for the existing institutions to overcome the issue of high employee turnover rate within the non-local higher education sector.
