    • Footwear is an essential accessory, but it has also become a big issue for the climate crisis. This thesis will specifically discuss the effect of the footwear industry on the environmental impact. To provide a holistic view, an overview of the current footwear industry and a historical background of footwear are covered. In addition, the thesis describes the sources of the environmental impact caused by footwear manufacturing and what the major brands are doing to combat the waste produced.
    In order to provide possible suggestions for the footwear industry to move towards becoming more sustainable, this thesis researched new technologies that could be implemented in the shoe-making process.
