Israel needs to modify its geopolitical strategies in the Middle East due to the growing competition between the US and China. This thesis explores how changes in American focus and the expansion of the Chinese economy affect Israel’s security, diplomatic, and technological approaches. Utilizing a qualitative case study and thematic analysis, this research combines academic literature, policy documents, and expert assessments. The results indicate that Israel is confronted with twofold pressures: dependence on US security assurances and increasing Chinese interest in its technology sector.
This study enhances the field of international relations by examining Israel as a middle power case study—a nation manoeuvring through great-power rivalry while utilizing technology as both an economic strength and a strategic risk. The thesis also offers policy recommendations that are pertinent to other middle powers (e.g., Taiwan, South Korea, Singapore).
