中共政權成立至今，已過卅年。其間，中國大陸一直予人隔離之感，竹幕籠罩之下，外邊的人難得一探其中奧秘。中共以絕對的權威統治著廣濶的土地，眾多的人口，在決策中心的一舉一動，自來成為注目中共的最重要焦點所在，但由下對上的政治舉動，卻不容忽視，因為，竹幕有漸開的趨勢，更因為中共也具有發展中國家的性質，所以，研究政治發展課目時，中共的個案是值得去探討的。本文遂以中共青年知識分子的政治參與表現為探討主題，自一九四九年到一九八○年間，選擇三個階段中的較突出個案，即我們較有資料（常常仍是極不足的）來考察的個案，加以分析。選擇的個案較偏重於對中共政治系統作需要性投入的參與表現，然而，這往往也是支持性投入的一體之另一面。論文共分五章十五節，約十二萬字。第一章導論闡明論文使用的架構與概念方法，第二章、三章、四章分別以第一章所取的概念架構，應用於分析個案的政治參與表現，而在第五章的結論中，將前面數章的分析結果做綜合的結論，由此點出中共知識青年的政治參與模式，並指出研究中共知識青年政治參與上的限制，及須考量的相關影響變數，最後，將論文的理論概念及其應用做一番檢討。雖然，難以明示出中共知識青年政治參與的影響範圍及根據模式預測其未來發展的明顯趨向，但將於可能範圍內加以最詳細的析論。
