如何早期發現有適應問題的青少年，以早期加以輔導是輔導工作重要的一環。本研究修訂「生活輔導診斷測驗」(Diagpostic Tost for School Guidance）以評估國中學生的生活功能方式(style of life functioning)。在信度與效度研究及標準化過程中共有14.所台北市國民中學學生接受測驗，有3055名有效樣本納入電子資料處理。結果發現相隔五週各分量表（一般診斷項目）的再測信度在0.533〜0.824之間。統計顯著性皆達P<.01。效度研究分內部效度與外在效度。一般診斷項目與總分的內部相關係數在0.558〜0.744之間，特殊診斷項目與總分的內部相關係數在0.418〜0.598之間，亦達P<.01的顯著水準。一般診斷項目各項目間的相關係數在0.222〜0.592之問，特殊診斷項目各項目間的相關在0.232〜0.649之間。
外在效度方面，以36.名犯罪少年與36.名隨機取樣的國中學生作t考驗，結果發現13.項一般診斷項目中有10.項達P<.05以上的顯著水準；11.項特殊診斷項目中有8.項達P<.05以上的顯著水準。
在常模研究中，年級方面發現一年級較二、三年級有更為良好的生活適應，二、三年級間則無顯著的差異。男、女生方面則發現女生較男生的生活適應更為良好。男生除了在自我信賴感及焦慮傾向兩項顯著地優於女生外，其餘大致均較女生為著。
與日本的常模研究中，發現我國青少年較日本青少年在社會成熟及攻擊、衝動傾向均較日本青少年為優，亦卽我國青少年較富於社會按巧更協調性，不會感情衝動而直接走向攻擊行為。而日本青少年在自由感（卽不受家庭、父母過度的拘束）及學校關係、基本的人際關係和焦慮傾向等方面均顯著地較我國青少年為優。
在男女分校與合校的變項上發現。無論男女生，合校學生均較分校學生的生活適應為優。
在能力分班與不能力分班的變項上均未發現有顯著的差異。
在優秀班與普通班方面，優秀班較普通班有更好的生活適應。普通班男生的生活適應尤其顯著地較為不良。
