Youth political engagement has seen a drastic decline in recent years in different democratic countries around the world. Meanwhile, in the case of the Philippines and Taiwan, youth voter turnout is still at high levels, yet marginalization is evident and lingering. This led to the rise of youth social movements and the popularization of prominent youth mobilizers. These youth actors then try to engage in traditional politics when opportunity arises, but various factors affect their politicking, such as political pressures and stereotypes, age discrimination, and political violence. This study then aims to promote and better understand the political discourse on the acceptance of youth activists in formal political institutions, specifically from the perspective of their fellow youth. This study utilizes a theoretical-conceptual framework that pivots the whole process in an interesting lens. Interviews and Surveys will be used to gather responses from our participants, which will be analyzed through thematic and descriptive analysis. Results show that the youth perceives activists-turned-politicians to be idealists, which is a double-edged sword that can either affect their advocacies positively or negatively. They also see that their transition is hindered by different factors that sometimes force them to forego their activist roots, which in turn shows that their activism is not genuine but more for political gain. Though the study was able to meet its objectives, further research would greatly provide a better understanding of this unique and untouched area of youth politics.
